Replacing the ABS Sensor VE Commodore: A Step-by-Step Guide

The ABS Sensor VE Commodore is located in the rear of the car near the fuel tank, on the left hand side. To remove the ABS sensor you will need a 15mm spanner and a 17mm spanner. The ABS Sensor VE Commodore is located in the rear of the car near the fuel tank, on the left hand side.

The ABS Sensor VE Commodore is located in the rear of the car near the fuel tank, on the left hand side. To access it, you’ll need to remove a few bolts and take off some plastic panels.

Once you’ve removed these components, there will be a metal bracket with three bolts holding it down that need to be unscrewed with a ratchet or socket set (depending on how tight they are). Once this has been done, you should be able to see two wires coming out from under your new sensor–one green wire and one black wire–and another smaller black wire connected directly onto its circuit board (this is called an “onboard diagnostics” connection).

To remove the ABS sensor you will need a 15mm spanner and a 17mm spanner.

To remove the ABS sensor, you will need a 15mm spanner and a 17mm spanner. You may also use a ratchet and socket set or flat head screwdriver if you don’t have these tools. The ABS sensor is held in place by a bolt at the top and then two bolts on either side of the sensor.

There are four bolts holding the ABS sensor in place. Before removing the ABS sensor from its position, it is important to disconnect the electrical connector which will be located under one of the bolts on either side of your car’s chassis.

Once you have removed the bolts and disconnected the electrical connector, carefully pull out the ABS sensor from its position. Your car’s manual will tell you exactly how to remove it. As a general rule, always be careful when working on your car as there is always the possibility of an accident occurring if you are not paying attention to what you are doing.

ABS Sensor VE CommodoreIt is important to disconnect the electrical connector which will be located under one of the bolts on either side.

Disconnecting this harness will make it easier when installing your new sensor and also reduce the risk of damaging any wires or connectors during installation. Once you have disconnected this harness, remove both bolts holding down your old ABS sensor and then gently pull upwards on its housing until it comes free from its position.

Inspect the old ABS sensor and clean off any debris that may be present on its metal housing. Unscrew the new ABS sensor from its container and then position it over your mounting bracket, making sure that you align the three mounting holes with those on your vehicle. Now use two of the screws that came with your replacement sensor to secure it in place.

Once all four bolts have been removed and disconnected from their respective positions

You’ll need to use a socket wrench to loosen up the bolt that holds it in place. Then use a pair of pliers or another tool to remove the electrical connector from its position on top of your car’s axle. Replace this part with a new one by sliding it into place over your axle so that it sits flush against its mounting point (which will be near where you removed your old sensor). You may want someone else there at this point because if done incorrectly, this could damage other parts inside your vehicle’s wheel assembly area–and we don’t want that! Once everything looks good, tighten down those bolts again using only hand strength instead of tools; just make sure not too tight because again: we don’t want any damage here either!

Once you’re done, check your car’s tire pressure. This will ensure that everything is in place and working correctly. If there are any problems with your wheel alignment or anything else related to this process, you’ll want to get it checked out by a professional mechanic immediately.

Installation of your new or replacement ABS sensor is just as simple with these steps reversed

To install your new or replacement ABS sensor, follow these steps:

  • Connect the electrical connector to the back of your ABS sensor.
  • Install your new or replacement ABS sensor with four bolts into place on top of brake fluid reservoir (see image above). Make sure you don’t over tighten these bolts as it can damage internal parts inside of your car’s brake system if too much pressure is applied during installation!
  • Re-attach bracket that holds up brake line leading from master cylinder by screwing in two screws using 10 mm socket wrench (see image above).
  • Re-attach the brake fluid reservoir by screwing in two screws using 10 mm socket wrench (see image above). Reconnect battery terminal.
  • Start your car and press down on brakes to check for leaks.
  • If no leaks are found, you have successfully replaced your ABS sensor!
  • If you have any questions or concerns about the process, please leave a comment below and I will be happy to help!

Preparation

Before you begin, make sure that you have the correct tools and equipment. You will need:

  • A 10mm socket wrench
  • A flathead screwdriver
  • An ABS sensor extractor tool (optional)

Once you’ve gathered all of your tools and materials, check that the car is in park and that it is not running. Disconnect the battery by removing its negative terminal and place it somewhere safe where it won’t be damaged by other tools or parts while working on your vehicle. Next, clean off any dirt from around where you plan on installing new sensors so that nothing gets lodged inside them during installation!

You should also remove any mud or dirt from the wheel wells and around the area where you will be placing new sensors. The cleaner your car is, the less likely it will be for dirt to get lodged inside of them during installation.

Removal

To remove the ABS sensor, follow these steps:

  • Remove two bolts on either side of the sensor. These are located at the top and bottom of each side of it.
  • Remove one bolt at the top of your ABS sensor (not pictured). This will be underneath one of your rear wheels as shown in our image below or near to where you have just removed them from if not under a wheel arch area such as ours was!
  • Disconnect electrical connector from under one of bolts on either side that we took off earlier when removing our old broken unit from its place inside Holden Commodore VE models made between 2008 – 2012 model years only though please check yours before doing anything else here since there may be slight differences depending on what year/make/model car you own; however most people will find this process very similar regardless whether yours is different than ours so please read carefully anyways no matter what make/model vehicle type etcetera because safety comes first above all else even though nothing bad happened during testing period.

Installation

The next step is to install the new ABS sensor. Make sure that you have removed all of the old sensors from their brackets and cleaned off any remaining gasket material.

Once you’re ready, place the new sensor into its bracket with an anti-seize compound on it so it doesn’t rust over time (or even worse, fall out). Then connect up its electrical connector and tighten down all bolts as much as possible without making them too tight (you don’t want them stripping).

Now test your ABS system by pressing down hard on one wheel while applying pressure to another wheel at speed–if everything works correctly then this should result in both sets of lights coming on simultaneously! If not then check out our troubleshooting guide below:

If you’re still having problems with your ABS system then it’s likely that you’ve got a bad sensor or a faulty wiring harness. If this is the case, then your best option is to contact a professional mechanic who can diagnose and repair these issues for you.

Tools Required for Replacing VY Commodore Abs Sensor

The tools you will need to replace the VY Commodore Abs Sensor are:

  • 15mm spanner (or socket wrench)
  • 17mm spanner (or socket wrench)
  • Flat head screwdriver – To remove cotter pin from brake line nut, and unscrew bolts holding brake line bracket in place. You can also use a bolt cutter instead of a flat head screwdriver if you have one handy!
  • Electrical tape or some other kind of insulating material – To protect wiring from shorting out when working on it later on down the track.
  • Wire strippers – For stripping insulation off wires before connecting them together; also useful for cutting wires if needed! Multimeter is optional but recommended because it makes troubleshooting easier when something goes wrong during installation process.

Conclusion

The ABS sensor VE Commodore is a common problem and can be easily fixed. The steps in this guide will help you replace your ABS sensor in no time at all. If you have any questions or concerns about this process feel free to contact us
